Weirdest Race Ever!
Today 9/26/2009 I was suppose to run the miracle mile 15K when I got there the parking lot was closed and they send us to another parking lot which was full and we could not find a parking space anywhere, when I finally came out it was already to late the race had already started. By the time I parked my car, the race had been going on for about 30 mins. I started running by myself, it was the weirdest race I have ever run, there I was running all by myself, no one in front of me, no one behind me, no one on either side of me, it was unbelievable. I was running as fast as I could trying to catch up with the rest of the runners, after the first mile, one of the staff pulled up in a van and told me that they were going to start pulling up the cones. I asked him to let me know where to turn, a little while later he pulled up again and told me that they were going to hold a little on pulling the cones. I kept running, I missed the first turn and the guy pulled up again and told me I was suppose to turn there so I turned around and turned. I kept running but it was hard to know where I was going they had pulled the barricades but lucky for me they didn't take them away so that helped me find my way through the route, at mile 4 a guy told me, hey the back of the pack is only about 5 mins. away. I saw the truck full of cones ahead of me so I kept running and passed it, at the next corner the guy in the van stopped and told me that I had caught up with the rest of the pack, and sure enough when I turned the corner their they were. This was around mile 4 1/2, ok now I had people in front of me and behind me, now it felt more like a race, except that, trying to catch up with everybody else I had used up a lot of energy so it was a little rough the rest of the way. The race was 15K (9.1 miles), but since I didn't know where the starting line was and missed one turn, I actually ran 9.67 miles. I finished the race with the walkers and actually ran like them, run a while and walk a little, when I finished the race I was more exhausted then I had ever been in any race. Well this was supposed to be part of the training for a 1/2 marathon that I'm running in December, and training it certainly was.
